Roblox Faces Escalating Predator Crisis

Roblox, one of the largest gaming platforms in the world with over 71.5 million daily active users, is under intense scrutiny following a series of controversies over child safety, predator activity, and corporate accountability. A new video titled “Roblox, Take a Seat (ft: Chris Hansen)” exposes disturbing allegations, including failures to remove dangerous content, retaliation against whistleblowers, and a strategy that critics claim prioritizes profits over protecting minors.

The discussion features Chris Hansen, investigative journalist and host of To Catch a Predator, who weighs in on Roblox’s safety policies, the company’s legal battles, and the tactics used by independent predator catchers on the platform.

$12 Billion Market Loss and Federal Investigations

The situation escalated after Roblox sent a cease-and-desist letter targeting independent predator catcher “Schle”, who claims to have assisted in six predator arrests. Schle alleges Roblox attacked him instead of fixing systemic safety issues.

“Roblox has just lost $12 billion in market value following their response to their cease-and-desist letter against me,” Schle states.

Instead of removing problematic games entirely, Roblox began labeling them “17+”, raising concerns among safety advocates who argue this is insufficient when the platform’s core demographic is under 16.

“The developer is giving the tools to players to make this inappropriate content. That’s the problem,” Schle explains.

Chris Hansen: Roblox Missed an Opportunity

Chris Hansen, who has decades of experience exposing online predators, criticized Roblox’s response and suggested a collaborative approach:

“If I were the CEO of Roblox, I would make you an ambassador for security. They should get ahead of this and leverage your work to make the platform safer.”

Hansen also confirmed that using decoy accounts is a standard law enforcement tactic:

“We couldn’t do these stings without decoys. Law enforcement uses these exact same tactics. Roblox should focus on the activity you’re exposing, not silencing the people trying to stop it.”

The Arbitration Controversy

The video also highlights claims that Roblox forces victims into private arbitration, preventing lawsuits from moving forward. According to Bloomberg, at least eight Roblox employees confirmed these practices in 2024.

Other platforms like Uber and Lyft have abandoned mandatory arbitration for abuse victims, making Roblox’s stance increasingly controversial.
